The crew of Boris Gadasin/Vladimir Demyanenko took a dominant victory on the first round of the FIA International Cup for Cross-Country Bajas and the first event in the Russian championship - the "Saint-Petersburg - Northern Forest" Baja 2009!

The first round of the FIA International Cup for Cross-Country Bajas, the first event in the Russian cross-country championship and the 2nd round of the Latvian rally-raid series, "Northern Forest 2009", was held in Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad region from February 26th to March 1st.

40 crews entered the race to conquer six special stages covering the total competitive distance of 404 kilometres.

The Baja started with administrative checks and scrutineering held in Saint-Petersburg in Thursday. it was followed later in the evening by the grand opening ceremony at St.Isaac's square in the centre of the northern capital which officially launched the "Northern Forest" Baja 2009.  The crews making their way up to the ramp and down from it could feel like coming in and out of lights - so many colourful projectors surrounded the ramp, and so illustrious the whole design concept was. Combined with a genuine beauty of the historical sights, it created a special atmosphere of a fairy tale about some northern heroes.

The real action began on Friday with a prologue, the track for which was prepared at the stadium of technical kinds of sport "Ladoga" and was configured so that two competitors would start simultaneously in opposite directions. Boris Gadasin, who upgraded his Nissan car by putting a more powerful engine into it, proved to be very fast straight out of the box. The time he set couldn't be beaten until the very end, when all the international competitors had already finished, and only the guests from neighbouring Latvia, a championship round of which the Northern Forest Baja also hosted, managed to do so, having reached the finish 4 seconds faster then the crew of the FIA International Cup for Cross Country Bajas 2007 winner.

The second Leg of the "Saint-Petersburg - Northern Forest" Baja consisted of three loops over the same stage held in Priozersk district of the Leningrad region. The 84 kilometres long stage was a mix of different parts - both open and fast, and narrow and twisty, with trees standing close to the road. Before the start of the race the main favourites were considered to be the reigning Russian champion Ruslan Misikov and the winner of 2007 International Cup for Bajas Boris Gadasin, representing the G-Force Motorsport team. However, only titles are not enough when you face such a strong opposition, and you have to prove yourself in real action. That wasn't a problem for those two, who shared wins on all three stages of the day between them. SS3 answered to the question of who would finish Leg 2 as the Baja's leader. The furious attack by Gadasin brought him success - he took his second stage win in a row, finished two minutes ahead of his closest competitor and took the lead in the Baja.

The first day of spring became decisive for the participants of the "Saint-Petersburg - Northern Forest" Baja 2009, as it was on Sunday stages that they had to cover about 2/5 of the competitive distance. The leader of G-Force Motorsport was fastest on two runs through the stage and took a dominant victory in the race.
